IV Ketamine Therapy: Depression

What is IV ketamine therapy and how does it work for treatment resistant depression? Originally approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as an anesthetic, intravenous (IV) ketamine administered in lower, subanesthetic doses has been shown to be approximately 70-80% effective in treating patients suffering from treatment resistant depression (TRD). Ketamine works on an entirely different type of neurotransmitter system than current antidepressants, which can take months to improve symptoms.
